North Carolina Global TransPark

MHAworks was hired by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to repair the damage the Kinston Regional Jetport Terminal building sustained during Hurricane Florence and provide comprehensive renovations to the terminal building. The goal of the multiple renovations and improvements is to ensure that the North Carolina Global TransPark becomes an ‘innovation hub’ that can be marketed and utilized to draw new businesses to the region.

Phase one of the renovations focused on the interior work to just over 3,000 square feet of office space at the south end of the building. Pipes burst during a low-temperature period that needed repair. There was also water damage and high humidity issues on the site, along with unconditioned airflow throughout the building, and ceiling tiles that were sagging. Additionally, our team investigated the site for ADA improvements.

Phase two focused on a 42,000-square-foot roof retrofit. This work kept the existing aesthetic of the old roof but added insulation and improved the thermal performance of the assembly. We examined the skylights to see if there were ways to enhance light in the space and stop water leakage.

Phase three will focus on fully renovating the remainder of the interior space and phase four will include the upfit of the new mezzanine level.
