SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals

MHAworks delivered planning, programming, design, and construction administration for the SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals to provide a nurturing home-away-from-home for transplant, oncology, and critical care patients and their families. The 43,000-square-foot, 44- bedroom hospitality house includes single bedrooms and guest suites; library and computer spaces; a variety of comfortable living and dining areas; family kitchens; and laundry rooms.

The interior finishes of this project include warm, stained craftsman woodwork, original paintings designed into the architectural friezes, special stained concrete floors, and a focal stone fireplace.

Due to constantly reaching full capacity, SECU Family House hired MHAworks to design a three story addition to the original building. The $10.3 million project added approximately 26,000 square feet of space to the campus. With 36 additional bed units in single and suite-style rooms, a community gathering space, laundry facilities, and a front porch overlooking a landscaped courtyard, the SECU Family House nearly doubles the overall capacity for patients and visitors.
