MHAworks Celebrates Pine Wing Expansion of SECU Family House

Apr 23 2021

This month, MHAworks celebrated the completion of the Pine Wing expansion project for the SECU Family House in Chapel Hill with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The ceremony, hosted by the SECU Family House, UNC Hospitals, SECU Foundation, and the Town of Chapel Hill, gave special recognition to MHAworks for the design of the three-story addition.

The SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals provides a safe, nurturing, and affordable home for patients and their loved ones who travel great distances to UNC Hospitals for life-saving procedures and serious illnesses. SECU Family House hired MHAworks to deliver planning, design, and construction administration for the original building completed in 2008. Due to consistently reaching full capacity, MHAworks was hired again to design an expansion for the existing facility.

This $10.3 million addition adds approximately 26,000 square feet of space to the entire campus. With 36 additional bed units in single and suite-style rooms, a community gathering space, laundry facilities, and a front porch overlooking a landscaped courtyard, the SECU Family House nearly doubles the capacity for patients and visitors.
