UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Hospital
MHAworks transformed NCDHHS’ RJ Blackley ADATC (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center) into UNC Hospitals’ newest Youth Behavioral Hospital. Located in Butner, this 54-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital offers a first-of-its-kind model of mental health care for children and teens. Children can receive a variety of different services at this facility including psychotherapy, occupational therapy, art therapy, recreational therapy, music therapy, and much more.
Through thoughtful planning and the use of evidence-based design, our team altered the space to create safe and comfortable living quarters and patient and staff spaces. Our team renovated 47 patient rooms and six restrooms, created four private “seclusion” suites, fully enclosed four nurses’ stations, replaced 200 doors, and renovated two shower rooms.
