Winterville Community Park

MHAworks was asked by the Town of Winterville to develop a master plan with goals to unify an existing park with a proposed 4-acre expansion, restructure existing space to accommodate additional parking, provide a user-friendly facility, and minimize removal of mature trees that occupy the site.

The concept of the master plan relocated Division Street, which previously divided the park property, allowing unobstructed pedestrian circulation throughout the park. The master plan incorporated new facilities and amenities such as a baseball field, a multi-purpose playfield, a concessions plaza, an amphitheater, tennis courts, walking trails, interpretative nature area, tot lots, and 75 additional parking spaces. Our team also made design choices that would allow the functional usage of the park by the annual Watermelon Festival which draws thousands of visitors to the weekend long event. This project was funded through the acquisition of a PARTF Grant.
