Tergus Pharma Lab & Manufacturing Facility

MHAworks was hired by Tergus Pharma to provide professional design services to upfit a 96,000-square-foot (SF) shell building located in Durham, NC. The new space will be used as a certified Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)-compliant facility with support packaging, warehouse, and administrative office spaces. This project was split into multiple phases, with the first phase including the interior upfit. In the early stages of design, our team coordinated with Tergus production staff and industry specialists to develop the building’s program, considering various manufacturing processes and different user groups.

To date, we have provided master planning and conceptual design services for the entire building. We have also completed schematic design and provided design documents and construction documents for a Phase I area (65,000 square feet). In the production wing of this facility, we have incorporated temperature and humidity controls into specifications established by the manufacturer. Additionally, there is HEPA filtered air throughout the building and the interior walls and ceiling of the facility were constructed using modular panels.

The scope of the manufacturing space includes loading docks, including one with a hydraulic lift, and an interior bay built to load and unload materials and products inside the building. The facility is monitored with 24/7 video surveillance and has a centralized command center and a card key security system.
