Historic Renovation
We believe in preserving the buildings that have survived through generations through adaptive reuse because they are our living historical record. Not only is building preservation a responsible means of husbanding material resources, these buildings communicate to designers of current and future eras the past methods and means of design and construction that still have value today.
Getting Back to Basics
Buildings of the past were often better designed to shed the rain through their construction detailing; to provide healthy ventilation by means of higher ceilings, gravity ventilation and building materials that could more readily absorb excess interior humidity; and they offered abundant daylight as past generations could not rely on powerful and reliable artificial lighting.
More Important Than Ever
In today's world of “green” and “sustainable” design and marketing, one of the best solutions for reducing carbon emissions and the depletion of natural resources is utilizing our existing building stock and making them more energy-efficient.
